On an individual level, I want to support you in reaching your career goals whether as a recruiter, team leader or business owner. For an industry that is worth $27 billion dollars in Australia alone, it is an industry that needs to support people at all levels of their recruitment careers. Thankfully the days of asking newbies to make 30 connected client calls from the phone book without any training are over and there are now more and more trainers and mentors working in this area, but not nearly enough. Our industry is mature enough that we don’t have to “make it up as we go anymore”.
As recruiters, you may prefer to be coached or mentored by an external coach as often things that hold us back can be deeply personal or even unknown to you, but become clear in our conversations so you can overcome them to reach success in your career. Or maybe your manager does not have the time and/or skills to upskill you.
Big billers are often promoted to team leaders or people managers without any training. As being a good people manager requires a completely different skillset to being a big biller, this situation often creates several unhappy parties: you as you know you need to be better, but not necessarily how, your team and finally your manager as they want you to deliver something you are not equipped to…yet.
Business owners; you discover that running a business requires an additional skillset that you may not have i.e. financial and commercial acumen. Also it can be a very lonely endeavour. You know you are the guiding light to your team, so who do you bounce ideas off and share insecurities with?
On a broader level, my goal is to continually contribute to increasing the level of professionalism in our industry, so our reputation in the wider business world improves. In some people’s minds the perception of the recruitment industry leaves a lot to be desired. In short: together we are definitely better!
In 2007 Sophie founded Younique Coaching, so she could spend more time with her two young boys. As Sophie’s husband had died from a sudden heart attack in 2004, Sophie instantly became a widow and a sole parent in one single afternoon.
This decision enabled Sophie to fully utilise her then18 years recruitment, leadership and training experience and expertise to benefit other recruiters and recruitment business owners to offer better service and thereby also bill more! Her mission is to raise the standard of the recruitment industry and as a result raise the perception of the industry in the wider business community.
On a personal level, Sophie has lived on 4 continents, speaks 3 languages and harnessed much hope and resilience throughout her life. Sophie has become stronger when faced with adversity and believes that all experiences are life lessons sent to challenge us and and give us the opportunity to grow.
